inning, a bounce home run off Slim Harriss, but Babe Ruth,
back in the lineup, golfs his 25th in the 4th, also off Slim. Gehrig
has three hits and also swipes home. New York (49-20) win their 5th
straight while Boston lose their 12th straight.

and Joe Pepitone in the 3rd inning in the Yankees' 6-5 win. The
consecutive trifecta was last done by the Yankees in 1947, when Charlie
Keller, Joe DiMaggio and Johnny Lindel connected. Richardson is 5 for 5
in the game. Mantle's two homers
today, his 37th and 38th at Fenway, will be his last in Boston, and tie
him with Babe Ruth for most homers by a Sox opponent.

2017: In
an episode bringing back memories of Moonlight Graham, whose
abbreviated major league career took place on this day 112 years ago,
theYankees' Dustin Fowler makes his big league debut as the starting
right fielder in a game against the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.
The end of the top of the 1st inning finds him in the on-deck circle,
and in the bottom of the frame, he vainly tries to track down a foul
ball hit by Jose Abreu down the right field foul line and crashes into a
wall, badly injuring hs knee. He has to be carted off the field, his
season over.

1907: The
last-place Washington Senators steal a record 13 bases off catcher
Branch Rickey in a 16-5 win over the New York Highlanders. Rickey,
acquired last February from the St. Louis Browns, is pressed into
service despite a bad shoulder because of an injury to starter Red
Kleinow. Rickey's first throw to second base ends up in right field and
the subsequent pegs are not much better. He almost nips Jim Delahanty on
a steal of third base. In his eight innings, relief pitcher Lew
Brockett helps Washington with a deliberate windup. Only pitcher Tom
Hughes and second baseman Nig Perrine are steal-less, while Hal Chase
swipes one for New York.

CC Sabathia on the disabled list with a groin strain, then in their game
against the Indians, Andy Pettitte is hit by a line drive off the bat

Mcbride, and Whitey Ford wins his 13th of the year. Yogi Berra collects

but falls to 12th now. Three errors by the Mets' infield in the 2nd lead
 to four runs.
