 On this day in Yankee history... 


1925: Lou Gehrig pinch-hits for Pee Wee Wanninger, beginning his streak of playing in 2,130 consecutive games.  The next day, first baseman Wally Pipp shows up with the after-effects of a concussion, and Gehrig takes over.

1992: The Yankees use their first round pick in the amateur draft to select Derek Jeter of Kalamazoo, MI. 




 

2009: The Yankees play their 18th straight game without an error, breaking the record held by the 2006 Red Sox.
