1928: Babe Ruth hits three home runs in a World Series game for the second time in his career as the Yankees beat the Cardinals 7-3 to wrap up their third Championship.

1938: The Yankees become the first team to win three successive World Championships, defeating the Cubs 8-3. Red Ruffing posts his second victory of the Series as the Yankees sweep the Cubs for the second time in six years.

1940: Joe Pepitone is born.

1949: The Yankees outhit the Brooklyn Dodgers 10-6 to win the World Series in five games. Pinch Hitter and third baseman Bobby Brown is the hitting hero, batting .500 and driving in five runs.

1958: Bob Turley pitches 6 2/3 shutout innings in relief to beat the Milwaukee Braves 6-2 for the World Series title. The Yankees become the first team since 1925 to win the Series after being down 3 games to 1.

1977: The Yankees rally for three runs in the 9th inning to beat the Kansas City Royals 5-3, and take the AL pennant in the fifth game of the ALCS.

1996: The Jeffrey Maier incident helps the Yankees to a 5-4 win over the Orioles in game 1 of the ALCS.

2017: The Yankees forces a decisive fifth game in the ALDS by defeating Cleveland 7-3. Trevor Bauer is victimized by an error by 3B Giovanny Urshela, allowing 4 unearned runs in the 2nd to be yanked out of the game early. The Yanks then score another gift run on one more error by Urshela in the 3rd. Luis Severino pitches 7 strong innings to earn the win, while Tommy Kahnle retires all six batters he faces, five of them on strikeouts, to earn the save.
