1923: The Yankees score five runs in the 8th inning to post a comeback victory in the sixth and final game of the World Series for the franchise's first World Championship. Babe Ruth hits a 1st-inning home run in the Yankees' 6-4 win victory over the crosstown Giants.

1978: In Game 5 of the World Series, the Yankees pound the Dodgers with a barrage of 18 hits, 16 of them singles, on the way to a 12-2 win. Rookie starter Jim Beattie goes the distance for the win, as New York now take a 3-2 lead in games.
