1930: Red Ruffing hits two home runs on the way to a 7-6 win over the Browns.

1938: The Yankees 'back into' their 10th pennant in franchise history, clinching the flag despite being swept in a doubleheader by the St. Louis Browns.
1956: Mickey Mantle becomes the 8th man in ML history to hit 50 home runs in a season. The shot comes off Billy Pierce of the White Sox in the 11th on the way to a 3-2 Yankee win. The victory also clinches the club's 22nd pennant in their history.

1960: Before 53,876 fans at the Stadium, the Yankees take a pair from the Orioles, 7-3 and 2-0. The Bombers have swept the four-game series, and the faltering Birds, now four back, will end up in 2nd place, eight games back. Ralph Terry's two-hitter in the nitecap beats Milt Pappas.

1962: At Washington's new ball park, D.C. Stadium, Mickey Mantle clouts the first home run there, and adds another, both off Washington starter Tom Cheney, to pace the Yankees to a 7-1 victory. The Mick has 5 RBI on the day. Ralph Terry picks up his 22nd win, the most by a Ynkee right-hander in 34 years. The result, combined with a Twins loss, leaves New York (90-63) in 1st place by four games.

1965: On Mickey Mantle Day at the Stadium, 50,180 fans come out to see No. 7 play his 2,000th game. Joe DiMaggio and Senator Robert Kennedy are on hand as Mantle is given a barbecue grill in the shape of a prairie schooner and a six-foot 100 lb. Kosher salami. In Mantle's first at bat, Detroit's Joe Sparma comes off the mound to shake his hand. The Mick then flies out. The Tigers go on to spoil the party by winning 4-3.

1979: Billy Martin reportedly pays rookie pitcher Bob Kammeyer $100 to hit former Yankee Cliff Johnson with a pitch in Cleveland's 16-3 rout of the Bronx Bombers. Toby Harrah belts two round-trippers as well, and the two combine for 9 RBI. The loss goes to Paul Mirabella but Kammeyer gives up all eight Tribe scores in the 4th inning without recording an out in his only appearance of the season.

1993: Trailing by two runs with two outs in the bottom of the 9th, Mike Stanley hits a pop fly to left for the apparent third out, but time had been called just as the pitch was delivered due to a fan running out onto the Stadium field. Given a second chance, the Yankee catcher singles, which is followed by a Wade Boggs hit, a walk to Dion James, and a Don Mattingly 2-run single to beat the Red Sox 4-3.

2010: CC Sabathia becomes the first 20-game winner in the majors as the Yankees beat the Orioles 11-3 at Camden Yards. It is also the first time the lefty has attained the mark, having won 19 in a season twice before.
