1939: At Comiskey Park, the Yankees win their first night game in franchise history as they defeat the White Sox 14-5.

1949: The Yankees buy Johnny Mize from the Giants for $40,000. 












1961: Roger Maris, in his record-setting season, becomes the first player to hit his 50th home run in the month of August. The 26-year old all-star outfielder connects off Ken McBride of the Angels, but the Yankees lose 4-3.

1964: The Yankees beat the Red Sox 8-0, as Mickey Mantle and Johnny Blanchard both homer, and Roger Maris drives in 3 runs. Mel Stottlemyre wins his 3rd game in a row since being recalled from Richmond. The Yanks end the day 5 1/2 games behind the Orioles, with the White Sox in 2nd place, 1 1/2 games back.

1996: The Yankees claim Luis Sojo off waivers. 









2010: Robinson Cano hits a grand slam and drives in 6 runs in support of CC Sabathia's league-leading 17th win, his 15th straight win at the Stadium, as the Yankees sink the Mariners 10-0.
