1922: The Yankees take over first place by beating the St. Louis Browns 9-2 behind Carl Mays.

1956: The Yankees purchase Enos Slaughter from the Kansas City A's. 

1960: The Yankees launch a barrage of five solo homers and four pinch hits, the latter tying an AL record, on the way to topping the Indians 7-6.

1966: Detroit's Earl Wilson, winner of six straight, hits an 8th-inning homer to give himself a 5-3 lead over New York. The Yankees, however, batting against reliever Hank Aguirre in the 9th, tally one run on a Clete Boyer single, and win it 6-5 when Mickey Mantle sends a drive just beyond the reach of a leaping Al Kaline over the right field wall. The win still leaves the Bombers (57-72) in last place.

1987: The Yankees and the Reds exchange starting pitchers, with Dennis Rasmussen going to Cincinnati for Bill Gullickson. 

1997: The Yankees pound out 22 hits in an 18-2 win over the A's. Joe Girardi and Rey Sanchez lead the way with four hits apiece.

2002: MLB.com registers approximately 30,000 hits as internet fans watch the first MLB game to be streamed live, a 10-3 Yankee win over the Rangers. Alfonso Soriano sets a team record for home runs by a second baseman. The previous mark of 30 was established in 1940 by Joe Gordon.
